What are the 2015 Refund Cycle Dates?

Once upon a time, there was an IRS refund cycle chart that told taxpayers when they could expect to receive their tax refund.

Don’t plan on the IRS posting a 2015 Refund Cycle Chart. In 2012, the refund cycle chart fairy tale ended and the IRS eliminated the chart.

However, there are still helpful tools out there to help filers get an idea on when they can expect to receive their tax refund in 2015. Since each year differs slightly, you can check out the 2016 refund cycle dates HERE.

Where do I go to find out when I will receive my refund?

The IRS no longer posts a tax refund chart, however, they did post an article last year explaining a refund tool available on their website called “Where’s My Refund?”. Once your 2014 tax return is filed, you can check your refund status on the IRS site. You’ll need to enter the following information;

  • social security number
  • filing status
  • refund amount.

Are there any estimated refund cycle charts available?

Although the IRS won’t post a 2015 refund cycle chart, there are estimate refund cycle charts out there. The dates are based on trends from prior years. The tax refund cycle chart is based upon how you elected to receive your tax refund; via direct deposit or check. Below is an example of a 2015 refund cycle chart (don’t forget these are estimate dates);

The tax refund cycle dates are NOT promised dates. They are simply dates based off of previous year trends. To know for sure when you will receive your taxes, wait a few days after filing your 2014 taxes, then check the IRS website using their “Where’s My Refund” tool.

The IRS is now accepting e-filed 2014 Tax Returns. That means you can file your 2014 today with RapidTax and within 21 days you’ll have your refund money. |  Photo via Seth Anderson on Flickr

  1. Ive filed my taxes on the 13th and its still saying its processing, now my sister did hers a week or so later and shes received a date on saturday for the 5th but she has received it today which is 2days early, I want to know if I havent received a error msg yet should I not be worried?

    1. Hi Tricia,
      I wouldn’t be worried, some tax returns take longer than others to process. If 21 days has passed since you filed and still no changes, then you may contact the IRS directly for a representative to research the status of your refund.

  2. I filed electronically on feb 2 2014 and it said it was accepted. I check the irs website everyday and it says that it is still being processed. Its been 29 days. Why havent I received my money. My state check came about a week ago but my federal doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. What should I do

    1. Hi Santos,
      The IRS can take longer than expected to process returns. It can be frustrating but there is no promise form the IRS that you will get your refund within a month.
      I would suggest contacting the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040 if you would like an IRS representative to research the status of your return. (Just a heads up, the phone lines are extremely busy so you may have to wait on the phone for an extensive time.)

      Best of luck!

  3. I filed on feb.5 accepted on feb 6. Still processing with code 152 do I count weekend days as part of my 21 days??? Should I be worried please help..

    1. Hi Terrie,
      Topic 152 just means your tax return is in progress, and is not something you should be worried about. I wouldn’t count weekends in the 21 days. Once the 21 days has passed, you can call the IRS directly and one of their representatives can research the status of your return. The number is 1-800-829-1040 although it’s good to know, there will probably be an extensive wait time.

  4. I filed my my taxed on 2/15/14 the say I should get it on 3/8/14.why so long and im still on the 1st bar of wheres my refund,why havent updated yet it been 2weeks already.

    1. Hi “Kennymc”,
      It can take the IRS longer than expected to process some refunds. There is no promised date on when you will receive your tax refund, just estimate dates. Once it has been 21 days since you filed your return, you can call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040 and a representative will research the status of your return.

    1. Hi Toya,
      20140705 represents the day your return was processed. In your case, your return was processed on Thursday, Feb 13 (07 is the seventh week of the year, 05 means the fifth day of the week). The 3/3/14 is the date your refund is planned to be sent.

      If you elected to have your refund direct deposited, I would expect to receive your refund 1-5 days after 3/3/2014. If you elected to have your refund mailed via check, I would wait a few weeks.
