What happens if you don’t abide by the deadlines listed above? Nothing, if you’re due a refund. The government just keeps your money longer than it has to. But if you owe the government money, you may have to pay a failure-to-file penalty, a failure-to-pay penalty, and/or interest.
Don’t get caught unaware by one of these deadlines. Get your taxes in to the IRS now before you get slammed with penalties and interest.

the irs gave me a date of febuary 6 2013 do you think i will get it back early
Hi Lashana,
The date the IRS gave you is more reliable than any speculation on my part. If the Where’s My Refund tool says that you will get your refund on the 6th that’s when I would expect it.
Do tax professionals such as Jackson Hewitt or h&r block have to wait until January 30 or can they file on January 22? I would really appreciate it if someone will respond a.s.a.p. Please! I thank you very much. Antigone
Hi Antigone,
My understanding is that everyone has to wait for the 30th. You can find some info on the IRS site here: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Plans-Jan.-30-Tax-Season-Opening-For-1040-Filers
