New York winters can be tough, checking the status of your NY tax refund shouldn’t be!
If you are a resident of New York State, you might be looking for your NY state tax refund to use towards a trip somewhere warm. After all, it’s been a rough winter in New York– the white-out snowstorms, feet upon feet of snow, freezing temperatures, etc.
If you are in fact eager to know the status of your New York State tax return and when you’ll be receiving that NY refund, you’ll be happy to hear you can check your refund status online. In fact, after you’ve filed with RapidTax, obtaining your refund status is pretty easy!
How Can I Check my New York State Refund Status?
If you filed your NYS tax return, you have the option to check the status of the return online. You’ll first have to wait about a week after filing your return online (if you mailed your return, you’ll have to wait a month). Once the one week (or one month) is up, visit the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance website. After entering your social security number and refund amount, you’ll be able to view the status of your NY tax return.
The New York State refund status tool is updated daily and like the IRS “Where’s My Refund?” tool, you can check the status of your tax return as often as you would like. The New York State tax refund status tool will inform you if the state has;
-
received your return
-
is processing your return
-
if your return requires to be further reviewed
-
the date you will be issued your New York refund (if it’s been approved).
Don’t want to keep checking your status? No problem, you have the option to sign up for the New York State refund e-mail alerts and you’ll be notified when there are updates to your NY refund status.
When Will I Get My New York State Refund?
The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance website states that e-filed returns take about 30 days to be processed, from the time you e-file your return. Mailed returns however, take about 8-12 weeks.
It’s also good to remember, it’s always faster to receive your refund via direct deposit rather than having a refund check mailed. Saying that, if you want to get your NY refund as soon as possible, file your New York State return on RapidTax, and elect to have your New York state tax refund direct deposited. Then, once filed, your refund will be processed within a month!
As a reminder, you have until April 15, 2014 to file your New York State and federal returns.
If you haven’t filed your state or federal taxes yet, create an account now on RapidTax and have both returns filed quicker than you can shovel your snow covered sidewalk.
