April 15, 2015 was the last day to file your 2011 taxes to claim your refund!
Yes, you can still file your 2011 tax return. Unfortunately, you can no longer claim your 2011 refund.
Thanks to the IRS statute of limitation, you only have three years from the original tax return due date to get your refund. Once the three years passes by, don’t expect to see a penny of your refund money.
If you still need to file your 2011 taxes & owe tax…
If you still need to file your 2011 taxes, you should do so as soon as possible. If you weren’t expecting a 2011 tax refund and instead have tax due, you should keep in mind that failure-to-file fees, failure-to-pay fees and interest increase by the day. The longer you wait, the more you’ll end up paying.
The statute of limitations changes for those with tax due. In fact, the IRS period for collecting taxes due is ten years. In other words, if you’re thinking you’ve done a good job at avoiding paying your tax liability, think again. There’s still seven years left until the IRS statute of limitations is up.
If you still need to file your 2011 taxes & were expecting a refund…
If you’re filing a late 2011 tax return, you won’t be punished if you were expecting a refund. Of course, you can no longer get that money but that is the extent of it. Kick yourself now but at least you learned for next year!
Prepare your 2011 tax return online today
Many wonder if it’s possible to file 2011 taxes online. The answer is this; you can prepare your 2011 taxes online, but you can’t e-file. The e-file system shuts down for prior year returns, meaning you’ll need to physically mail your late taxes to the IRS.
Although you will have to print and mail your back taxes, RapidTax will do the hard work for you. Not only that, but our tax team is ready to help you with any questions you may have!
That means that you won’t have to fork over high fees to an accountant. Instead, you’ll save money (and a trip to an accountant’s office).

I thought my records to file 2011 taxes were stolen. I’ve recently ran across the entire file and it’s immaculate!! Can I file my 2011 taxes (at a fee, of course) and expect my refund? Thank you, Marianne Inman (609)972.5671
Hello Marianne,
It’s great that you found your file for 2011. You can still file prior year returns 2005-2015. However, the IRS does have a statue of limitations, limiting taxpayers three years to claim their refund. Therefore, if you had an estimated refund you would not receive that refund.
